FOLK MUSIC: Johnny Silvo at Willows

JOHNNY Silvo is the special guest in the continuing autumn season at the Willows Folk Club in Arundel on Wednesday, November 25.

Club spokesman Chris Davis said: "A great man with a great voice, Johnny Silvo has been entertaining audiences in Britain and abroad for over 30 years, having first played the Willows in 1972!

"He's been described as 'arguably the most talented all-round entertainer on the folk scene today', possessing a singing voice of great volume, clarity, tone and versatility, complimented by some fine guitar work.

"Johnny is equally at home playing folk, blues or ragtime, and even a hint of jazz. Among the numerous albums Johnny's recorded over the years is the critically-acclaimed Blues In The Backyard with legendary jazz guitarist Diz Disley (former musical partner of the late Stephane Grappelli) featuring exciting takes on great songs such as San Francisco Bay Blues, Glory Of Love and many more.

"However, it is perhaps his skill as an entertainer that has kept Johnny at the top of his field for so long, loved by audiences wherever he goes for his warmth and fine humour.

"His appearance at the Willows marks a welcome return for a magical entertainer!"

Entrance for Johnny's gig on Wednesday, November 25, is 4.

The Willows Folk Club first opened its doors to the public more than 35 years ago, and now meets every Wednesday at 8pm in the function room of Arundel Football Club, Mill Road, Arundel, situated to the rear of the large public car park opposite Arundel Castle.
