Angela Brittain ASWA and Jo Willis will have two paintings each exhibited at the 155th Annual Exhibition alongside the work of 140 mainly professional artist members of the society from July 28 to August 7.

The show will be opened by Daphne Todd OBE PPRP, the renowned portraitist and prizes will be presented by HRH Princess Michael of Kent at the preview on July 27.

The exhibition will have a diversity of styles and subjects that not only entertain but also provoke debate.

Jo is an oil painter and lives in Mannings Heath. Light, colour and texture are captured in her contemporary landscapes while her life studies, largely of people, exhibit a graphic quality, focusing on tone and composition. Jo takes her inspiration from every day life - sometimes with a nostalgic twist - when deciding on the subject for a painting.

‘Cattle Market 1880’, is one such canvas. Groups of men gather, view and talk about the livestock at the livestock market, as they would have done for centuries. A traditional English scene but with a contemporary treatment.

Angela paints in oils and acrylics and lives and works in central Horsham. Her paintings are strongly influenced by many years as a graphic designer.

‘Coffee Break’ reminds us how nice the world can be when you take time to meet friends, especially in beautiful Italy where she also paints.

Walking around Horsham and seeing how the open-air coffee culture has given the town a heart and vibrancy was an inspiration for both her paintings of life and leisure today.

There is a free, special private view in collaboration with ‘Breast Cancer Now” that the public can be invited to by emailing [email protected] where ten members of the SWA have donated a piece of work to be auctioned at the champagne reception on Tuesday July 26, 6.30 – 8.30 pm when Dame Zandra Rhodes will be guest of honour.

Both Jo and Angela are taking part in the Horsham Open Studio event again this weekend (July 16 and 17) and trail maps can be downloaded from http://www.horshamartistsopenstudios.co.uk/
