And Martine Scott, 12, from Loxwood not only brought home the Under-13 Individual title from the event in Solihull, West Midlands, but she also helped her North Kent MPC win the Team title as well.

This National Triathlon competition consisted of a precision shooting section and a swim, followed by a combined shoot and run.

Martine qualified for the event by first winning the U13 Individual and Team Titles from the South East Regional Championships, when she also won the Fastest Swim and Fastest Run trophies on March 23, in Tonbridge, Kent.

Despite only taking up multi-disciplined sports a year ago, Martine produced another storming performance to take the Under-13 title.

Martine trains with Cranleigh Swimming Club and their chairman Mark Lebus said: “We are all immensely proud of Martine’s success in becoming U13 British Triathlon Champion and thrilled that she has been a part of our swimming club in Cranleigh for many years.

“We don’t often get the chance to shout about a National Champion in our midst, so it is with huge delight that we congratulate Martine on her achievement.”

And there was more fantastic news for the Cranleigh Swimming Club member this week after hearing that she has been selected as part of the Pentathlon GB Team to take part in the European Biathle Championships 2014.

This is a continuous run, swim, run event and is being held in Open Water in Setubal, Portugal on July 20.

More accolades came from SE Region Shooting Coach Bill Bland, at North Kent MPC, who said: “Although Martine has only been with us a short time, her determination and commitment to training is a coaches’ dream.

“I have no doubt that this is only the first of many National titles that Martine will win”.

Delighted mum Christine said: “To win the British title is just fantastic, especially considering this is only her second ever triathlon.

“She only took up shooting three months ago, and only started all of this last April so she’s proving a bit of a natural.”

Her parents are understandably extremely proud, and mum Christine added: “Marti has really astounded us with her sporting achievements so far this year.

“She had some serious competition in these British Championships but her sheer determination to win saw her take the title.

“There was just no way she was coming home without it!”
