Young fighters win national trophies

Hastings and Bexhill Kyokushinkai Karate Juniors walked away from the national individual non-contact fighting championships with five trophies from five separate categories.

Following the success of the club's annual competition, they fielded a 15 strong entry into the weekend event in Reading.

The competition was attended by over 450 entries with all junior categories varying between 30 to 50 fighters. All entries from Hastings and Bexhill performed well beyond expectations with many really rising to the occasion.

Due to the entry numbers any one competitor was required to win at least three to four rounds to qualify for semi-final levels.

Club instructor Chris Seal said: "This has been an outstanding result for our club and town; each year our standards have been improving and the results are now being reflected in all national competitions."

Several members of the club have now been asked to attend national squad training sessions and hopefully the club will produce other England team members alongside their current England star Becky Woods.
