Worthing get a topping

UNDER-STRENGH again, Worthing slid two places down the table on Saturday after Bexhill captain Chris Topp's left-arm spin mopped up their middle and lower order from the relative promise of being 93 for one.

Casey Lee built his third score of 40 in his new role of opening the batting, but comfortably top-scored after striking six fours before giving a catch to off-spinner Jamie Wicks.

Alex Harris went lbw to Topp and Worthing were 140 for five. Thereafter, only the experience of John Kaye took Worthing towards any defendable total. He went, eighth out at 177.

They were all out for 178 and Bexhill lost only three wickets in winning with 16 overs to spare. Australian wicketkeeper Josh McLean '” thumping his first delivery for six, off left-arm spinner Ben Shelford '” belted an unbeaten 80.

Worthing were aggrieved at a caught-behind decision against Ollie Rogers, believing he had batted the ground during an over in which he hit opening bowler Ian May for a successive four and a six. And again when skipper David Rogers was adjudged lbw to a ball they believed would easily have missed leg stump.

Aussie paceman Greg Dowell, now down at No 11, went to a first-ball lbw that did not convince them either.
