WICKERS TAME HAWKS

SOUTHWICK warmed up for this Saturday's home RUR Cup quarter-final with Shoreham by defeating another of manager Sammy Donnelly's former clubs at the weekend.

Whitehawk - where Donnelly was in the hot seat for more than seven years - succumbed to another bright and hardworking Wickers performance at a parky East Brighton Park.

Donnelly noted: "We haven't had to chase the game for the second week in a row. We've taken our chances again and it's shown in the result we've managed to get. Whitehawk are no mugs and it's great to go there and get a win."

Certainly, it now looks like the tide may have started to turn for Donnelly's side. After a horrid run which meant they won only one league game in nine before Christmas, victories over Sidley and now Whitehawk have served to give Wickers the impetus they need going into Saturday's clash, the third meeting between the fierce local rivals this season.

More details in Shoreham Herald on January 9.
