We're not the weakest link

SIDLEY and Bexhill reconvene at Gullivers on Saturday August 2 with both captains insisting it's not a Sussex Division Two wooden spoon match.

Bexhill remain anchored to the foot of the table while Sidley's recent winless streak has seen them slide perilously close to joining them.

Sidley are the only team Bexhill have beaten in the league this season but their captain Scott Woodroffe is adamant the two sides are not the weakest in the division.

He said: "I would not say we were the two worst teams. I don't think Bexhill are by far the worst team in the league. They could easily have another 60 points. They've had some really close games.

"This season more than ever it's the team who performs on the day. We are pretty evenly matched. The difference this year is that games where we've got in a really good position to win we've won three times whereas they've had some really close games that they haven't been able to win."

Bexhill counterpart Steve Phillimore also shrugged off the bottom-of-the-table talk, saying: "The table doesn't lie but there's about four weaker teams and we are one of them although we are the others' equals. They are doing better than us but I suppose it's a good time to play them. But the weakest side we have played were Haywards Heath."

Bexhill expect to be close to full strength with the availability of Mark Roughley the sole question mark. Sidley are also getting over the worst of their unavailability problems and are hoping Chris Deeprose is fit to bowl. Play starts at 1.15pm.
