WELLS TO WORK PROMOTION?

LITTLEHAMPTON skipper Paul Wells hopes that Saturday's drenching hasn't upset their chances of gaining promotion to the Premier Division of Sussex League cricket.

At Lewes, having been put in, openers Andy Northcote and Karl Stedman went off all guns blazing. They coped admirably with the pace of Kashif Ibrahim and Jim Ellis who, from the other end, came in for some harsh treatment by from Stedman.

His first ball was full and smashed behind point for four and Stedman continued in the same vein clipping five more boundaries in his 40. Northcote contributed 32 to an opening stand of 75, and his two most memorable shots were driven down the ground off Sher Khanaga.

When the rain came, Littlehampton were 88-3 from 19.2 overs, and Wells reckoned they were on for a total above 200, but was absolutely certain that they wouldn't have lost it.
