Titan win helps Crowley to 116 winners for 2008

PULBOROUGH jockey Jim Crowley ended 2008 on a high, with a long-distance treble on December 30, followed up by a victory on New Year's Eve to take his tally for the season to 116 winners, comfortably beating his 2007 total of 92.

A double at Lingfield on New Year's Eve was sparked off with an outstanding win on board Titan Triumph, trained at Angmering Park by William Knight.

Crowley has ridden this horse to his last three victories and it was Titan Triumph's fourth consecutive success in a one mile handicap. Titan Triumph, who may now go for a 0-100 handicap later this month, provided Knight with his 23rd win of the season, in which his target had been 20.

The jockey went on to win a later race on board C'mon You Irons, trained by Mark Hoad at Lewes, achieving a 12-1 double. He made a trip to Wolverhampton in the evening worthwhile when he kicked home Zuwaar, trained by Ian Williams to win the two mile handicap.

HIs final winner of the year came at Lingfield on board Dimander, trainer by his sister-in-law, Amanda Perrett. Dimander has showed promise on his debut in November and was narrowly beaten over course and distance just before Christmas.

He snatched victory near the line and can be expected back next season to tackle one mile races on turf.

Angmering jockey Paul Doe was also on form at Wolverhampton on December 30, with a particularly good win on board Paul Howling's Divinsky. He rode 24 winners and had 85 places last year.
