TEN-MAN MUSSELS OUTGUNNED

IT'S HARD to pin down the exact reason why Shoreham failed to gain any reward from their match with Horsham YMCA at Middle Road on Saturday, but a number of factors suggest themselves.

First, YM played neat football and were dangerous on the break. So were Shoreham. Both sides showed great commitment, both tried to pass it around on a sticky surface, but here comes the conclusion John Suter's side took the chances that came their way with clinical sharpness, whereas Mussels just lacked the necessary cutting edge.

But Shoreham will have had one eye on tonight's John O'Hara Cup semi-final with Selsey (at Wick 7.30) and that's never helpful when you are facing a side second in the table, since you need all your concentration.

Shoreham began well, with Mark Pulling forcing Sussex keeper Jason Dumbrill into a stretching tip-over from a free kick as early as the fourth minute. Almost immediately in reply, YM's Matt Duffield went through and was halted by a fine tackle from Jamie Quinlan.
