ROOKS SHOT DOWN

HAVING ALREADY upset the promotion bandwagon of Carshalton, then made Bognor's task slightly harder on Easter Monday, Worthing went on to present Lewes with a stiff promotion task by defeating them at The Dripping Pan last Wednesday. Lewes' response was to go to Nyewood Lane on Saturday and win 2-0.

Rebels' victory '“ thoroughly deserved after a robust, efficient team performance '“ landed Lewes at the mercy of both Carshalton and Bognor, who must drop points to allow Jimmy Quinn's side up.

Back to the game, and Worthing were by far the better side in the opening half. Mark Knee had three efforts on goal, two headers held by Lewes keeper Russell Tanner and a shot from a Wesley Lopez cross that he was unable to deflect goalwards.

A goal was coming, and Rebels thought they had it after 29 minutes when a Chris Hibberd cross was headed down by Carrington for Knee to fire home. But a flag had been raised and the strike was ruled out.
