Robinson shows belief in Bloor's Woodside

EX-CHARLTON Athletic Welsh international John Robinson has become a Rebel. The former Albion favourite will face his former team in Worthing colours on July 8 at Woodside Road after signing Ryman League Premier Division forms for joint-team manager Danny Bloor.

He (Tideway, Newhaven) and Bloor (Blatchington Mill) were in the same Brighton Schools team in 1983-84 '” Bloor as a full-back, a year the senior '” and Robinson was briefly with Crawley, then Lewes in the Conference and Conference South last season. He retired the season before, at Gillingham, after a professional career that took him from Charlton to Cardiff '” instead of full circle back to Albion as many had hoped.

Now 34, he lies 12th in the list of Charlton Athletic's all-time longest-serving players, with 382 appearances over 11 years. He scored 43 goals.

Bloor is concerned about his midfield after his team failed to fulfil the promise of the New Year and missed the promotion play-offs. The team that won those was Fisher Athletic, the demolition of whom in January should have been the pivotal game.

One of the midfielders who tore Fisher apart that afternoon is the player who left Woodside this week, before Robinson walked in '” playmaker Liam Collins.
