Ringmer chairman Soan quits

Ringmer Football Club chairman Richard Soan has resigned after nearly two decades at the club.

Soan last night stepped down, ending an 18-year association with the Caburn outfit.

The former chairman's decision follows that of Steve Johnson who quit as manager last week after two years in charge of the Blues.

There has been a certain amount of unrest at the club in recent months, with factions disagreeing over the issue of securing the deeds to the ground in order to raise funds through a bank loan.

However, all Soan was prepared to say today was, "I have stepped down because of family, business and health reasons.

"I have been chairman of Ringmer Football Club for 18 years. The club has been a big part of my life. It is a very sad day from my point of view."

The resignations round off what has been a traumatic season for the club. Player Herve King died after collapsing on the pitch during a game in February.
