REBELS IN RACE ROW

FOR A second time in three seasons, opposition racism against their striker Ben Carrington has sparked an official complaint from Worthing Football Club to the Football Association.

A letter from Woodside Road to Soho Square this week will allege that a member of the Lewes coaching staff, directed racial abuse at Carrington after the final whistle of the match which Rebels won 2-0 at the Dripping Pan last Wednesday.

Carrington reportedly attempted during the handshaking to play down the racism but was greeted with a further inflammatory statement.

Carrington, 30, who on Easter Monday earned Worthing a draw at home to Bognor Regis Town when he was awarded a penalty kick, is bothering opposition benches with his on-pitch chat, teasing and goading as well as his trickery and pace on the ball.

More details in Worthing Herald on May 1.
