But the winner of the evening’s big prize – the youth sport achievement award – is to be decided by Observer readers.

To qualify for this award, youngsters must have competed at a national level. We have whittled down entries to a dashing dozen – the rest is up to you.

Get this week’s (June 7) Observer to read about the 12 on the shortlist and find out how to vote for your favourite.

The top six – to be revealed in next week’s paper – will go forward into a second week of voting.

All votes cast throughout the fortnight will then be counted the day before the ceremony and the winner will be revealed at the ceremony.
