NETBALL

A STEYNING Grammar School student has been selected for the England Under-21 netball squad.

Rosie Allison (15), who lives at Littleworth, near Partridge Green, is looking forward to travelling to Scotland in October to play against Scotland and Wales.

Events further in the future include the Open Championship in February 2008 in Belfast and the World Youth Championships in the Cook Islands in 2009.

Rosie, who is believed to be the school's first netball player to be chosen for the squad, had to undergo four days of trials at a summer camp at Bristol.

She had previously played netball for her school, as well as Sussex and the south- east region, and was one of four invited to the regional screening by the head coach of the south, Peter Carter.

Rosie later received a letter from England Netball inviting her to the England camp at Bath. She will have training there every third week before the October Home International.

Said Rosie: "I was delighted to be picked for the team. I have two brothers who play basketball and everyone thought I would follow suit, but I chose netball instead."
