Hickstead's Golden 50 years

THIS year see the All England Jumping Course at Hickstead in West Sussex celebrate its 50th Anniversary. Who would have predicted that a horse show in a field alongside the A23 would one day be seen instantly in homes around the world?

Very few, least of all Douglas Bunn for whom the first show on May 6 1960 was a realisation of a dream that was to grow beyond even his expectations.

I have seen Hickstead develop during the last 20 years to stage some of the most prestigious show jumping events on the equestrian calendar, featuring many of the World's top riders.

Douglas Bunn, who sadly died in 2009, has left a venue that will, I am sure, survive the change of time and continue under the care of his children. They have some wonderful plans for the future whilst retaining the traditions that their late father set up.
