Hawks handed a giant help as they plot another title winning season

Current Under-11 Sussex League champions Horsham Hawks have joined forces with an American College Basketball player as part of their preparations for the new season.

Richard Bell, who stands at 6’9” and regularly plays in front of up to 12,000 fans for the University of Nevada Wolf Pack, kindly offered to spend time working with the U11 and U12 development squads.

The young Hawks learned about the value of hard work, commitment and resilience as well as getting a thorough workout through a series of passing and shooting drills.

After training, the Hawks players took the opportunity to ask Richard questions about his journey to Division 1 NCAA College Basketball and collect autographs.

The Hawks’ success this season has been recognised with a number of players being called up to represent county, regional and national squads - starting with Daniela Lozzi, who has been selected for the England U16 squad.

Millie Lea-Clayton was selected to the U13 SE England squad that went on tour to Germany and achieved a convincing 64-28 victory over Dorsten. Joshua Lea-Clayton, Antonio Lozzi, Joshua Tavolieri and Miguel Venturini have been selected to the U11 SE England Development Squad and are heading off to Sheffield for the National Finals at the end of the month.

Meanwhile Amy and Charlotte Willcox, Joshua Lea-Clayton, Antonio Lozzi, Millie Lea-Clayton, India Belfield, Abbie Reeves, Ellie Hutchinson, Maya Le Rossignol, Amber Hutchinson, Freddie Winton and Tom Evans have all been selected to represent Sussex across the U11, U13 and U15 county squads in the SE regional tournament.
