14-year-old posts outstanding 42 points as competitive golf returns at Mannings Heath Golf Club

Leading the way with an outstanding 42 points was 14 year-old Freddie Muggeridge, playing off eight. He dropped shots on four of the opening five holes but was two under the card for the remainder helped by a brilliant eagle at the 17th. Seniors Richard Rossiter and Nick Tidey were only a point behind in second and third places with junior captain Cam Bates fourth on 39.

A level par front nine that included two birdies helped ten handicap James McCarthy on the road to 41 points and victory in Sunday's stableford. It was reward for some intensive lockdown practice and means he will now play off single figures for the first time. Ryan Shortland and Stuart Sandell, also both playing off ten, were his nearest challengers with 39 and 38.

Monday saw the seniors back in competitive action with the Roy Sendall Cup and few members of the section could have begrudged their captain Paul Trueman the trophy in a year which has devastated the usual packed fixture list.

His superb 43 points off 18 included seven pars and two birdies yet he only pipped Peter Catchpole's equally impressive card on a back nine countback with Steve Parker third a point behind.
