Super Selsey's six-hitters sink Shoreham

Chasing a top-half finish and gearing up for the RUR Charity Cup final, Selsey boss Adam Hinshelwood has spoken of the need to end the season on a high.

Toby Pointing set the ball rolling after 20 minutes and they went into the interval 4-2 up thanks to an Omar Bugiel double and an own goal five minutes before half-time.

Shoreham hit back through Gareth Green’s free-kick and an Owen Callaghan effort that deflected off Julian Boniface just before the interval.

Selsey added to their tally in the second period through Max Thoms’ 68th-minute penalty and Graham Bush’s 13th of the season ten minutes before time.

Selsey rise to 11th thanks to the three points and a boost to their goal difference. Next up this Saturday are Horsham YMCA, who they beat 2-0 at Goring Mead and are hovering a point above the relegation zone.

Hinshelwood said of the victory: “We went 4-0 up and created good chances and it should have been more.

“The half typified us as a team – we let them back into the game. We can be frightening going forward but not defend properly when the ball’s dead.

“The next goal after half-time was important and they came at us in the first ten minutes but we cut out the mistakes and nullified their chances.

“We’ve got a settled squad now. Before, I didn’t know the league or players very well so I wanted to give them all as much game time as possible.

“We’ve been unlucky with injuries so there’s been disruption, but that leaves a chance for others like Ryan Cox, who’s had a massive impact, and Omar Bugiel, who’s been a bit of a revelation in a new system we’re trying.

“We’re lucky in this squad we can change players around quite fluently and that’s also helped.”
