Colbran still harbours faint hope for Magpies

The Magpies currently sit second-bottom in the Ryman League South 11-points off Chipstead and safety with just four games left to play.

Peacehaven failed to pick up much-needed points over the Easter weekend with a 1-0 home loss to Corinthian Casuals on Saturday, being followed up by a 6-0 reverse at Hastings United 48 hours later. That has left Colbran’s side with it all to do but he still believes his side can do it.

He said: “It’s going to be tough to get out of it but until we can’t mathematically do it we’ll keep going.

“I can’t really see us getting out of it as we’ve poor on a poor run and without a league win this year.

“Teams around us have been picking up points and if we were doing that then I’d have more hope.

“But we’ll just keep going and see what we can do in these final four matches.”

In the past two seasons, only two teams have been relegated from the Ryman South with promoted sides from the league below unable to meet ground gradings.

Peacehaven currently trail place above Walton & Hersham by five-points, though, they have a game in hand.

But this also gives Colbran some hope and a little run could well see them given a reprieve in the division should they finish third or fourth from bottom.

He added: “If you look at the past two seasons only two teams have been relegated from this league. So if we could even finish third-bottom we could well be given a reprieve.

“It’s just about giving ourselves that hope heading into these final few matches.”

It doesn’t get any easier for Peacehaven on Saturday as they welcome Ryman South champions Folkestone Invicta.

But Colbran views it as just another game his side need points from and said: “They have got a big budget and a really good team.

“We know it’s going to be difficult but we will try our best to pick up a positive result.”
