Chichester College's influence is evident as city ladies triumph

Chichester ladies are proud to further strengthen their links with Chichester College this season.

The college support the team financially through sponsorship but also provide a fantastic feed for players along with use of the outstanding Body Works Fitness Suite.

This weekend’s match against Rusthall emphasised this link with five of the seven goals coming from present or past college players.

Chichester immediately took control and their early pressure was rewarded when Abbey Shrubb scored the opening goal in the tenth minute.

Rusthall sought an equaliser but it didn’t take long for Shrubb to score another. Captain Kirsty Willett had an outstanding game and scored a well-deserved goal just before half-time.

The Rusthall keeper made some exceptional saves, denying Steph Madden and Megan Thompson. But Thompson’s pace and determination helped see her score the next and assist Shrubb minutes later in scoring her third.

A penetrating through-ball from Hollie Wride allowed Georgina Starkey to put in a sliding cross which went in for goal six.

Willett scored her second, leaving Chichester 7-0 winners.

Chichester face Brighton in the second round of the Women’s FA cup at Oaklands Park this Sunday (2.30pm) – all support welcome.

Woman of the Match Georgie Adams in the Chichester goal pulled off an outstanding save to keep it 0-0 and Kerri Grant went close for Chichester as she lifted the ball over an onrushing keeper only to see the ball cleared off the line for a corner.

Chances in the first half were few and far between but any shots at the Chichester goal were kept out well by Adams.

Chichester began to push hard and close down high up the pitch causing problems for Haywards Heath, with Alex Hammond putting in a good performance in midfield.

Grant and Natalie Spencer started to link up well but Haywards Heath took the lead when Adams tipped a shot on to the bar and a striker followed up.

Chichester were working hard and Spencer had a couple of good opportunities but failed to find the goal. Substitute Lauren Ellis made a difference and Chichester looked capable of an equaliser but Haywards Heath broke and stole a second.

Chichester feel a win is coming.

Polegate 2 Felpham Tigers 0

Felpham started brightly against a strong Polegate side with Eloise Paine and Chloe Luff outstanding in a five-woman midfield which frustrated the home side. And it was Felpham who created the few opportunities in a tight first half.

With Lily Martin and Ashleigh Merriman solid at the back, Felpham were pleased with their first-half performance. The second half saw Luff go close with a long-range shot and Shannon Makey have a shot blocked.

It was always going to be a scrappy goal that decided the contest and Felpham conceded one with five minutes to go and then a second at the death – unjust after a superb hard-working team performance with all the Felpham girls contributing in a competitive and entertaining game.
