Chapman’s side kicked off with a 2-1 win away at Lancing thanks to goals from Lee Harding and triallist Tyrell Richardson-Brown.

And Chapman wants that to carry on up to when the season starts.

Chapman has been at the club for four years now but endured his worst period in the last three months of last season.

He told Middy Sport: “We want to get the winning mentality back in the club.

“I have been at the club four years and over that period the worst part was the last three months of last season.

“We are not use to losing games and not winning games and that is something we have got to overcome now.

“At the end of last season we drew loads and lost a few. We have got to get the mentality back that we do not accept that. We have to get results and get that support behind the club again and head in the right direction.”

And the boss was pleased with the match at Lancing on Saturday, where he used 17 players (see report on page 63).

He said: “It was a good run out. It’s about getting fit. People got some minutes.

“We had a young side out as a few of the experienced lads were away and couldn’t make it.

“Really pleased with it. It was a good pitch and we were able to pass the ball and there were loads of positives but still loads of stuff to work on which we knew anyway.

And two youngsters caught Chapman’s eye.

He said: “I was really pleased with the young keeper Mitchell Bromwich. He played 90 minutes. He’s not going to be in the first team but it’s great we can bring kids along who are going to be great in the future.

“He was really competent in everything he did.

“Tyrell Richardson-Brown scored a good goal and he has loads of pace.

“He was at Hastings last season and he is really quick, played wide up top and took his goal really well.

And Chapman is still hoping to make more signings and is looking to bring in two or three more.

Burgess Hill travel to Whitehawk on Saturday.
