FOOTBALL: Wick grab a draw with Lingfield

PHIL TURNER earned Wick Football Club a 2-2 draw at home to Lingfield on Saturday (October 10) with an 81st-minute equaliser.

Turner headed home George Gaskin's cross at the back post to ensure honours ended even in the County League Division 1 clash.

Wick were without Scott Murfin, their 15-goal leading scorer, who has dual-signed for Gosport Borough, but would have not have played anyway owing to a hamstring injury.

Wick's new strike force of Gaskin and Steve Boston combined for the opening goal on nine minutes. Gaskin played in Boston, who lobbed Lingfield keeper Andy Woodward.

Andy Dalehouse raced clear to slide home the equaliser on 28 minutes before Lingfield took the lead four minutes later through a stunning volley from Joel Greaves.

Gaskin had an effort saved in the opening minute of the second period before Lingfield's Joel Hughes was denied by Wick keeper Alex Bryant a minute later.

Wick should have equalised on 58 minutes but Boston blazed over from eight yards, although Turner's late header grabbed Wick a draw.
