FIRST WIN FOR GOLDS

AFTER 28 games in the league without a victory, Littlehampton waited until their first home fixture of 2003 to secure that elusive first win that was so well deserved for all their efforts.

Young substitute Ryan Loversidge scored the only goal of the game in the second minute of injury-time just two minutes after he had replaced Stuart Sell.

Loversidge crossed for Ryan Gayler who scuffed his shot but Ringmer keeper Sam Figg could only palm it back onto Loversidge's head and the ball rebounded into the net.

The script seemed to have been written already. Fifth-placed Ringmer chasing that top-three place came to The Sportsfield to go through the necessary trouble to pick up another three points against rock-bottom Golds and no-one would have bet against it.
