Dolphins dive into competitive netball

After three months of practising and a couple of friendlies, the Selsey Purple Dolphins were invited to play in a Back 2 Netball tournament at Westergate organised by the England Netball development officer for Sussex, Stacey Boxall.

The weather was perfect and four teams were present – the All Stars NC from Storrington, Midhurst B2N and a team from the University of Chichester (WSIHE).

Featuring a wide range of ages, games were played with enthusiasm, considerable skill and determination. The Selsey girls enjoyed meeting and playing against others who relished the freedom and fun in a team sport – weak or strong, tall or short, young or old, all were equal on court.

The tournament was won by Midhurst, who set a high standard. Selsey took the wooden spoon.

Selsey’s Sarah Worrall said: “Having lost all our games, you would think we would be downcast, but nothing could be further from the truth.

“We had all learned such a lot and now have much more idea of our own skill levels and a strong desire to improve. Roll on the next tournament.”

They want to build up more teams to play matches then develop these into leagues in different areas around Chichester.

Selsey Purple Dolphins play at the Selsey Academy on Mondays (6-7pm) and Tuesdays (7-8pm). All welcome – the new term begins on Tuesday, April 14.
