CUP GLORY IS GOLDS' AIM

AFTER A slow start to life in the South East Counties League Premier Division, Littlehampton Ladies FC are starting to hold their own.

They jumped up from Division 2 into the Premier Division last summer and this season have already reached the final of the Sussex Trophy.

Golds' captain Charlotte Bennett, 18, said: "This season's going really well now. The standard was a lot different to what we were used to at the beginning. We got quite a few new players in and we had to build up their confidence.

"Now all the players are getting stronger and we are all working together."

This is Bennett's second season as captain of a largely young squad. Lisa Callow, Emma Wallis, Gemma Halford and Kerry Coombs are still only 15 or 16.

She said: "There's a lot of pressure to being captain. I can't just think about my own game, I have to think about others as well '” keep their heads up and keep them going."
