After losing the toss and being put in to bat on a damp wicket, openers Charley Hepburn and Izzy Deamer put on 56 for the first wicket inside 8 overs before Izzy was bowled for 8.

Charley was then joined by Ellie Clark, fresh from her maiden 50 against Eastbourne in the previous round and the two girls continued to score freely as Charley registered her first 50 for the club before falling to a run out with the score on 89.

Ellie and new batter Adeline Preston then took the attack to the Hutton bowlers as Cuckfield amassed 161 for 2 from their 20 overs, Ellie finishing on 45 not out and Adeline ending unbeaten on 33.

In reply, Hutton lost a wicket in the 2nd over as their opener drove a catch straight to Hepburn at cover off Daisy Reuby.

Lottie Palmer-Brown bowled superbly without reward but claimed the second Hutton wicket with a missile-like throw into the gloves of Izzy Deamer who completed the run out comfortably. Ellie Clark then came into the attack to pick up two wickets courtesy of catches by Hepburn and Reuby. Excellent all round fielding continued to apply pressure, in particular stops from Emily Goss, Charlotte Bates and Adeline Preston all helped tighten Cuckfield’s hold on the game. Charley Hepburn picked up the 5th Hutton wicket before Emily Goss came on to take two wickets in two balls (one stumped by Izzy and one bowled) to finish the game in style, bowling Hutton out for 67.

The girls now progress to the National Finals at Grantham in Lincolnshire on Wednesday 29th July.
