Bexhill retain indoor cricket cup

Bexhill retained the East Area Cricket Association Indoor Cup at Horntye Park Sports Complex on Sunday.

Jeremy Wassell’s side won a topsy-turvy final against Bodiam by 17 runs and will be looking to make it a hat-trick of victories in 2012.

Bexhill batted first in the final and after six overs seemed to be heading for a below par score, but aggressive batting ensured they reached a competitive total of 118 off their 12 overs.

Bodiam’s reply got off to a bright start and they looked to be on a course to repeat their 2006 triumph until tight bowling and good fielding dragged Bexhill back into it. Bodiam were eventually bowled out for 89.

Bexhill knocked out Rugby Club and Hastings Wanderers en route to the final, while Bodiam saw off Robertsbridge II, Robertsbridge I (by one run) and Hastings Priory.
