Club rises to the top

WORTHING Swimming Club has been promoted to Division 1 '“ an outstanding achievement for a club that was in Division 3 just two seasons previously.

After two rounds of tough competition at Fareham & Cranleigh, the club travelled to Basingstoke, in second place in Division 2, for the final round of the Rother League.

With the top two teams overall gaining promotion to Division 1, fierce competition was expected from Basingstoke, Alton, Cranleigh, Hamble & Dorking. The evening certainly produced some exciting racing, with Worthing eventually taking third place behind Hamble and Cranleigh.

Having swum so well in the previous two rounds, third place was enough for Worthing to take second overall and promotion to Division 1.

Worthing Junior Team, comprising nine-to-13-year-olds, also won the Junior Cup in this division.

The cup is awarded for the best junior team performance over the three rounds.
