Chailey on the climb

A FIRST wicket stand of 118 between John Lister (69) and Mark Sellis (67) helped Chailey clinch victory against Ashdown Forest and move up to third in the league.

Lewis Hammond took 6-58 for Forest and then hit 58, but Shaun Barlow (4-44) and Joe Holland (4-74) blitzed the Ashdown card for 183.

Plumpton are fourth after their match at home to Lingfield was abandoned. Martin Brackpool hit 67 for Plumpton and Nick Skeldrick 48 not out as the home side made 189-3, while Lingfield were in all kinds of trouble at 54-5 before play was abandoned, with Derrick Taylor taking 3-16.

Streat beat Preston Nomads to move up to tenth. David Ingram took 5-43 as Nomads were dismissed for 168, and Streat sneaked home with just two wickets and three balls to spare thanks to number eight, Giles Garnett who made 30 not out.

Clayton were crushed at Balcombe after watching Alan Smith (120) and Tim Murrills (83) pile on 190 for the first wicket. The home side eventually reached 235-5 before skittling Clayton for 128.

In division two, despite a terrific effort from Martin Wells, who took 5-31, Plumpton were unable to stop Smallfield who won their division two clash by four wickets. Plumpton made 150-8 with Steve Eason hitting 36, but it wasn't enough as Rory Burberry (31*) led the home side to victory.

Streat swept to victory against the bottom club Scaynes Hill in their division three clash. John Houghton took 3-15 as Hill were dismissed for 101 before Streat eased home by seven wickets thanks to Les Brown's knock of 37.

Division Three: Burgess Hill 175-6 lost to Edenbridge 178-3; Cowfold 119-9 drew with Roffey 205; Forest Row 159 lost to Lingfield 163-4; Haywards Heath 205-7 beat St. Andrews 64; Horsham Academy 161-5 beat Lindfield Swans 160; SJM Fury 51-2 abandoned against Keymer & Hassocks.
