Another busy weekend for Burgess Hill Runners saw members taking part in a variety of events across the country.

Thirteen members took part in the latest West Sussex Fun Run league event organised by Fittleworth Flyers, the club’s usual high attendance reduced due to the other events taking place.

James Sorbie continued his recent good form finishing the approx 5 mile offroad race in 26th place in 34 mins 10 secs, followed by Alan Fry (35.18), Leigh Smith (35.58), Trevor Symes (time unconfirmed), Mark Craigs (40.42) and Simon Alexander (42.14). Liz Carter led the ladies contingent in 42.07, supported by Cath Beckett (43.12), Emma Fernandez (46.36), Katia Hannah (46.38), Hannah Watkins (49.51), Elaine Scott (51.59) and Sacihko Barry (54.00).

Also on Sunday, the club entered three teams in the River Relay organised by the Stragglers. running club This involved a scenic 26.2 mile route along the banks of the River Thames from Virginia Water split into 5 legs. Organiser Kevin Walker balanced the teams well meaning all finished strongly, with the C team completing the course in 3 hours 30 mins 48 seconds (31st place overall), the A team 3.49.21 (40th) and the B team 3.52.38 (41st). Finally, clubmembers Caz and Jay Wadey ventured North to Newcastle to take part in the Great North Run, known as the World’s greatest half marathon. Caz and Jay ran together and thoroughly enjoyed the event, finishing in 2hrs 30 mins.
