Bexhill rowers clinch historic win

BEXHILL Rowing Club landed the sought after Jeremy Puxty pairs trophy for the first time in its 110-year history thanks to the oars of Matt and Mark Mitchell at Herne Bay on Sunday.

The brothers, drawn right on the outside of the course, made excellent progress in the rough water to pull away from the field from the onset. Finding themselves 20 metres clear at the half way point, they pushed on coming out of the turns to increase their lead.

Herne Bay tried to eat into the advantage with 500m to go, but to no avail as the twins remained in control to claim their second win of the year. This latest success tasted particularly sweet because they had come so close to lifting the trophy over the past eight years.
