Batting slump hits Sidley

BATTING woes once again haunted Sidley as they slipped to defeat at the hands of promotion rivals St James' for the second consecutive week.

Having dismissed their hosts for a modest 164 Sidley would have fancied their chances of rekindling their top two hopes. But these ambitions quickly went up in smoke as they stumbled to a 57-run loss.

Captain Scott Woodroffe lamented: "It was very disappointing. We really let ourselves down batting wise. We should be getting 160 with the batting we've got."

Pakistani sensation Imran Javed (5-50) claimed another five victims with the ball as the away team assumed the early ascendancy. But an invaluable last wicket stand loosened Sidley's grip on the match although they were still firmly in the box seat at tea.

Wickets fell steadily when they stepped out to the middle as nobody was able to provide sufficient support to Tyrone Wildman (57). Andy Wellfare (4-33), Mark Johnson (3-22) and Henry Ledden (3-19) shared the wickets.

Sidley entertain Cuckfield on Saturday July 5.
