Work of Rye charitypraised at Open Day

The event also saw the launch of the annual Art Exhibition, which is one of the charities main fund raisers.

ARRCC (Activities, Respite, Rehabilitation Care Centres) provides activities and support for physically and sensory impaired adults in Rye and the surrounding villages.

It is based at the Rye Creative Centre in New Road.

Irna Mortlock, from ARRCC, said: “We had amazing Open Day at with glorious sunshine and welcomed dignitaries from East Sussex and Kent.

“The day started with the opening of the annual Arts Exhibition, this year kindly performed by The Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex Mr Peter Field. He was joined by a plethora of local dignitaries.

“After the opening speeches Sam Williams from ARRCC and members entertained the guests with a song and dance routine, which they have been practising in their weekly music workshops with Sam who is Theatre and Events Co-ordinator

Following the opening of the exhibition of member’s work, the guests joined the members, staff and volunteers in the garden to enjoy a barbecue and music from brilliant young musicians from the Adapt group attached to the Rye Studio School.

“The mini market did a roaring trade selling crafts made by the members, plants, bric-a-brac and jewellery.

“The final thrill of the day was the arrival of 1066 Target Sports from Hastings who set up in the field for everyone to have a go at axe throwing and shooting at targets.”

The work of the charity was praised by the Lord Lieutenant and other guests.

Among those attending were Rye Mayor Cllr Bernardine Fiddimore, the Mayor and Mayoress of Winchelsea, the Mayor of New Romney, the Deputy Mayor of Tenterden, and Colin Belsey, from East Sussex County Council.

ARRRC provides a vital service for its members, helping them to live more independent and fulfilled lives.

Among the services and activities it provides are computing; creative arts; movement therapy; gardening; cooking; complimentary therapies; exercise classes in a well equipped gym; creative writing and counselling.

It also organises trips for members to go fishing and try horse and carriage driving.

Responding to demand, ARRCC recently launched new day services for dementia care.

Last year the charity launched a Furniture Warehouse, with a collection and delivery service, where people can donate furniture which is then sold on to raise funds to support the work of the charity.
