Warnings have followed Bognor burglaries

Police are warning people in Bognor Regis to make sure their properties are secure after a series of daytime burglaries.

Electrical items, clothing, Christmas presents and alcohol have all been stolen during the break ins.

Ten burglaries have taken place since the beginning of December which are all thought to have been committed by the same offender or offenders.

Detective Inspector Tanya Jones of West Sussex Priority Crime Team said: “Houses and flats in a small area of Bognor are being targeted by this offender or offenders and as we get closer to Christmas it seems that the breaks are becoming more frequent.

“Generally the properties are broken into through the front door and I would ask residents to make sure that their properties are as secure as possible. If you have a dead lock then please use it.

“Neighbourhood policing officers have increased the number of patrols in the area, particularly during the mid-morning to lunchtime period when there appears to be an increase in the burglaries.

“We believe that this person may live locally and use a bike to get around. It appears that properties are broken into while the occupants are at work and when people are present the offender has fled.

“We would like anyone who may have seen a man acting suspiciously in the area to contact police.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting Operation Peapod or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
