VOTE: Should there be a rethink on parking in Bognor Regis?

The members of parish, district and county councils said they knew better than any outside experts what needed to be done to improve the main road.

They will look at a range of options for changing the current restricted access arrangement for vehicles using the High Street.

Any alteration is set to be made in two years.

It could involve fully or partly opening the road to traffic, bringing in herringbone parking, moving bus stops or putting in radio-controlled bollards to restrict vehicles.

County councillor Mike Coleman said members of local councils had more knowledge of the area than anyone hired in.

“The members know what is happening in this area,” he said.

“We are quite capable of coming up with ideas for it.”

Gillian Brown, the leader of Arun District Council, said: “I thought we had agreed the changes we wanted to the High Street a while ago. We don’t need consultants.”

Aldwick Parish Council chairman Dr Tony Poland said motorists from surrounding areas should also be considered.
