Volunteers wanted to host tea party

THE annual Bexhill Hospital garden party will be minus a key feature this year unless a team of volunteers can be recruited.

Tea on the lawn has long been a favourite institution at the League of Friends’ event.

But so far, social committee chairman Harriet Chapman has been unable to find a single volunteer to make tea or put cakes on plates.

For the first time in 27 years Harriet will not be present at the Saturday, June 18 event to supervise the production of tea for supporters to enjoy on the lawn behind the hospital’s Irvine Unit.

But she has made all the preparations and the cakes, together with the means of making the tea, will be available in the Irvine Unit kitchen.

Normally, a team of between six and eight volunteers is sufficient to undertake the task.

Now, garden party organiser Mark Sivyer is appealing for volunteers to contact him on 01424 210948.

A voucher for tea on the lawn is contained in the entry programme sold at the gate on garden party day.
