Udimore

Those of you who knew Margaret Woodham-Jones during her many years in Udimore, and more recently when she lived in Rye, will be sad to hear that she died last month. She had been unwell for some time, and had been in a nursing home in Wadhurst, but a mutual friend has told us that the end was mercifully quick. Margaret was a particularly kind and loyal friend of the late Bunny Hawkey, whom she was always very concerned for, and used to visit at Roselands.

Liz Turgoose tells me that the Overseas Group Summer Lunch in St Mary’s Community Hall last Thursday went very well. The lovely two-course lunch for over 65 people raised over £400 for the four charities supported by the group, The Deaf in Tanzania, the Papua New Guinea church partnership, the Armani orphanage in Kenya and Sight Savers. Dr Corry van den Bosch, of Sight Savers, gave an interesting and informative talk about the charity’s work, which will benefit from the cheque for £300 presented to her by the Overseas Group. Liz asks me to express many thanks to all the hardworking committee members and their many helpers, with special thanks to everyone who supported the event.

The one service in St Mary’s Church this Sunday is the celebration of Holy Communion at 8am.

On Tuesday (July 1) the monthly Messy Church will be in the Hall, starting at 4pm.

We have lost four of the smaller-sized square blue tablecloths, kept in the Hall for use on the small tea tables. If anyone has had them at home, perhaps for washing and ironing after an event, please have a look around for them. Nadia Florence-Marshall would be very grateful for their return!
