Sasbah (The Sussex Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus) only presents its own Sasbah Star Awards to those who have made an outstanding contribution to the charity.

Sasbah has been offering lifelong support to those affected by spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus for over 50 years now and in Burgess Hill a local group meets monthly, providing the opportunity for group members to get together for a chat, share experiences and make friends.

Group members Kerry Martin and Susan Chalkley have together put so much time and effort into fundraising for Sasbah that they have consistently beaten their own annual targets for three consecutive years.

In 2017 their stalls at local events, garden party, coffee morning, quiz nights and street collection have raised over £2,300.

Deputy to Sasbah’s CEO, Claire Bryant, was delighted to present both Susan and Kerry with their Star Awards.

She said: “In recognition of their outstanding support for Sasbah through volunteering and community fundraising.”

“This is our opportunity to say thank you to two very special individuals who have really made a tremendous difference to Sasbah.

“Their friends and family have provided amazing support through donations, attending events and helping with the annual street collection in Burgess Hill.

“We are naturally grateful to all those who have supported their efforts throughout the year, but none of it would have happened without the commitment and driving force of both Susan and Kerry.”

Sasbah provides support for families, for independent living, opportunities for children and young people including a training and enterprise centre – Saspire – residential breaks, social activities and the local community groups.
