Tweed and tea for cyclists

TWEED and Edwardian attire was the dress code for members of the Classic Cycle Group when they met to experience the 'true spirit' of nostalgic Bexhill.

They gathered at Bexhill station before taking a civilised spin around town followed by tea at the Old Bathing Station.

Ray Konyn, founder member and events co-ordinator for the Classic Cycle Group, commented that the trial event was so successful they will be running a tweed and tea family event every second Sunday of the month, meeting 2.45pm at Bexhill Station.

He invited all cyclists looking for an enjoyable, sociable ride to join them.

He said: “There will also be prizes for the most dapper tweedy chap or chapess. Since these are fun, leisure rides, all ages and abilities are welcome, and the pace is usually governed by the frailest and slowest antique bicycle.”

Ray added: “It’s a great opportunity to dust down your bicycle; find something ‘tweedy’ to wear, and join us for some gentle exercise and tea.

“The distance is only one or two miles before tea, with an optional second ride after tea for the more energetic, and nobody will be left behind.

“Any bicycle is acceptable but pre-1980 classics or retro bicycles are particularly appreciated and add to the nostalgic Edwardian spirit of the events.”
