Tuition centre opens its doors

WHETHER at school, at college or in adult life, there are few things more distressing or of greater hindrance than to experience difficulty educationally.

Now there is a local solution, the Kip McGrath education centre in Beeching Road can offer professional tuition to all - young or old.

On Saturday, centre organisers Steph Dudson and Sian Crossland staged an open day to demonstrate what the centre can offer.

The centre occupies spacious first floor offices above the TFI timber store opposite Rother's offices.

It is not the easiest of places to find. But following the signs across the TFI car park, down some steps and across the yard is a rewarding experience.

The fully-equipped centre offers professional tutoring in reading, spelling, English and maths.

Sian explained: "We are having the open day just to let people know where we are and what we offer."

The centre can help youngsters from six to 16 with after-school tuition to help them through SATS and GCSE examinations. It can provide professional assistance in coping with problems like dyslexia. It can also offer remedial tuition for adults who are encountering difficulty because they missed out on education in their youth.

Sian explained: "We have been running a centre in Eastbourne for four years. We have had over 500 people through the centre in that time.

"We have over 100 a week coming now."

The centre has recently taken on six new staff.
