TREES NEED SURGERY

Trees at the Pells Lake area in Lewes are in need of some serious surgery.

Of the 135 recorded trees there, 39 are in need of treatment.

Two others at the western end of the lake have Dutch Elm Disease.

A control officer, employed by the Sussex Downs Joint Committee is to fell them as soon as possible.

Lewes Town Council officers have met with the Pells Pool Association and the Pells Residents Association who are concerned at the potential severity of the work to the original 39 ailing trees.

Town clerk Steve Brigden said the residents concerns had been allayed.

The town council is in talks with Plumpton College to have the tree surgery work carried out by arboricultural students as a training exercise.
