TIMES CHANGE AT RECYCLING SITES

Seven of the county's recycling sites, managed by Veolia Environmental Services in partnership with East Sussex County Council, are trialling new winter opening hours in order to improve the service for local residents.

The new hours will begin on November 1 and will see all seven recycling sites opening one hour earlier to the public at 8am and closing at 4pm on weekdays.

At six of the sites, weekend hours will also change, with 8am opening on Saturdays and 4pm closing on Saturdays and Sundays.

The trial opening times are being implemented to allow residents to make more use of the sites during daylight hours and to enable people who work from 9 till 5 to do their recycling before work.

They follow a similar successful trial at the Mountfield Household Waste Recycling Site in Battle, where the revised hours are now permanent.

David Hicks, recycling site manager for Veolia, explains: "We want to provide the best possible service to all our customers and changing to an earlier opening time will maximise opportunities for people to use the sites. We have also found that during the winter period there are very few visitors in the last hour of the day. We hope that the new hours will be a change for the better.

"We are aiming to be as consistent as possible and operate the same hours at each of our sites: however, at a few sites opening times will still vary. We would urge people to visit our website at www.veolia.co.uk/southdowns/hwrs to see what hours their local site will be operating."

The trial opening hours will be put into practice from November 1 until March 31 in order to match the clocks going forward and back. If successful, they will come into force permanently, with the sites' usual summer hours operating at all other times.

New winter hours at each site will be as follows:

Forest Row
