Teenager hurt in bonfire incident

A TEENAGE boy was taken to hospital after being burnt by a bonfire. The 15-year-old suffered burns to his face, arms and stomach after a small explosion came from within the bonfire.

Comprised of grass cuttings, it was in the garden of a house in Tennyson Road.

Paramedics were called to the scene along with firefighters at 10.50am last Saturday.

The incident was one of three in which people were burnt in West Sussex last weekend.

This has prompted the county's fire and rescue service to remind the public of the dangers involved in lighting and being around bonfires.

Their safety checklist involves making sure the bonfire is away from sheds and fences, never using flammable liquids to light the fires and keeping a bucket of water or a garden hose handy.
