Sussex police warn on Easter driving

The Sussex Road Policing Unit is taking no chances over the Easter Weekend, and they are urging motorists to do the same.

It has been identified that the holiday weekends show a marked rise in drink driving offences, and the number of collisions resulting from alcohol consumption rise accordingly.

This weekend (March 21-24) will see an increase in the number of traffic officers patrolling the roads of Sussex, as the Road Policing Unit respond to this increased threat. Resources will target areas and routes known to suffer the worse collision rates.

Superintendent Paul Morrison said: "We understand that people want to enjoy the extended holiday weekend and this may result in increased alcohol consumption and, subsequently, more people using the road network having had a drink.

"Our advice is to enjoy the break, but avoid drinking and driving to do so. We will have extra patrols on duty to enforce the law against those who choose to risk the lives of others by drinking and driving.

"If you are in a group and the driver drinks then I would refuse to get in the car. You only get one life - don't waste it."

Officers will be carrying out high visibility checks across Sussex, as well as utilising marked and unmarked cars on all major roads.
