Step forward the new recruits

EIGHT young residents from Ashington have become junior neighbourhood wardens.

The volunteers are all aged under 14 and their role is to join and occasionally support the village's two adult and full-time neighbourhood wardens, Paul Conroy and Russell Akehurst.

And anyone aged eight to 14 from the village is welcome to join them in becoming a junior warden too.

The launch of the new junior warden scheme took place at the weekend when the new recruits took part in helping with a frecycling initiative in Ashington.
