Stay awake raises money for guide dogs

STUDENTS at St Richard's Catholic College were thanked for their fundraising efforts on Tuesday with a special talk.

John Allnutt spoke to pupils about his blindness and the importance of his guide dog, Carmel.

It followed year 7 students raising 1,000 for the Guide Dogs For The Blind Association with a recent sponsored 'stay awake'.

Mr Allnutt accepted the cheque for the charity.

Jamie Bligh, of St Richard's, said: "The pupils chose the charity. Mr Allnutt came in to talk about his life, the importance of his dog and to answer questions.

"The pupils did this as part of giving up something for Lent. In this case they deprived themselves of sleep and got sponsorship."
