Dubbed ‘Le Tour de Rye et Romney Marsh’ it takes place on Sunday September 28.

Among those taking part this year is Russell Fairman, the son of former Rye Rotary President Chris Fairman.

Russell completed the End2End challenge by riding the 865 miles from John O’Groats to Lands End in seven and a half days.

Some days the cyclist group started at 8am and didn’t finish until 10pm.

As a result of Russell’s efforts it looks like he is set to raise in the region of £2,700.

The group of 14 that undertook the Challenge with him expect to raise in excess of £50,000.

The fifteen riders were raising money for The Wooden Spoon, which is a National Charity that supports disadvantaged and special needs children.

Rye and Winchelsea Rotary club also made a donation to help Russell towards his target.

Rotarian Derick Holman, commenting on the charity ride at the end of September, said: “The nice thing about the ride is that it attracts both pleasure cyclists and professionals.

“All riders will be awarded a medal and refreshments at the finish ensuring that weather permitting this will be another day for families and riders to remember for a long while.”

Current Rye Rotary president Robert Holland said: “Why not join us with your cycle have fun and raise money for worthy local charities at the same time?

“Meet with us in Market Road on the 28th at 9am.”

Members of Rye Rotary turned out in force last weekend dressed as pirates and brigands for the Rye Maritime Festival.

Derick Holman said: “It proved to be a very successful event for us.

“Although the amount of cash raised by Rotary was slightly down on last year, this was explained as being due to experimenting with new ideas and equipment.

“In previous years the club have worked as a human fruit machine, which proved to be somewhat of a spectacle as well as a money raiser.

“This year it was felt that a new approach was needed however organisers are now wondering in view of this years comments if a further review for Maritime 2015 might be needed.

“Rotary president Robert Holland thanked both his fellow members and the public for all their help and contributions for this year.”
