There will be a selection of stalls and games taking place on the day with a piper and drummer to entertain. All proceeds from the day will benefit St Michael’s hospice and the British Heart Foundation. Organisers would be pleased to receive any donations of tombola prizes or cakes on the day, please call 870223 or 871415 for further details.

The next monthly Coffee Morning and Mini-Market, sponsored by the Parish Church, takes place in the Village Hall on Thursday 6 September at 10.00a.m to 11.30a.m. As well as coffee and cake, there will be stalls selling cakes, jams etc, bric-a -brac, books, plants and bird food, a raffle and for 50p, a chance to be weighed, accurately and in confidence. A warm welcome awaits.

On Saturday September 8, there is to be a cream tea in the Rectory garden, Church Hill from 3pm. Everybody is welcome and the added bonus is that if the weather is unkind it will be relocated to inside the church. If you would like to go but need transport please contact 870688.

You may have noticed that there are “Help to make it Happen” cards on the counter in the village shop / post office. These are to urge the government to allow the post office to continue supplying vital central and local government services. If you haven’t already completed a card then please do so and hand in at the counter, they will then be forwarded on to Greg Barker. The greater the number sent, the greater the impact and chance of success.

The school summer holidays are nearly over and we look forward to the children returning to school this coming week. I speak as a resident not as a tired parent, although I have to say that I always looked forward to any school holidays as my daughter was boarding at a school for the deaf so times together at home were maybe a bit more longed for. It will be good for the village to have this youthfulness around and look forward to seeing the walking bus wind its way to school every morning. I’m sure there will be lots of news for the autumn term coming shortly.

Karen writes that the Boot Fayre held last Saturday was a great success and we managed to raise £444.87 towards Shaun headstone of which was amazing. We were so grateful to everyone who came to support the cause and were very generous with donations on the door as well. Thanks to Prim and Jean Dann who made refreshments on the day of which were enjoyed by all. The Wood Family are so grateful to everyone who came on the day.
